Adaptory, an ambitious indie survival base-building simulation, is now available in Early Access on Steam. This systems-driven adventure places players in indirect control of a small crew of Terranean explorers who awaken from cryosleep only to discover their starship has crashed onto an uncharted planetoid. What was meant to be a mission of exploration quickly becomes a fight for survival.

Players begin with a four-person crew and the remains of a wrecked ship. Each crew member is procedurally generated, featuring unique personality traits and specialized skills that directly influence how they interact with one another and the environment. From the very first moments, survival depends on careful planning, smart resource management, and an understanding of the complex systems that govern the world.

A Living Simulation Built on Interlocking Systems

Adaptory’s core gameplay revolves around deep simulation. More than fifty materials are governed by simulated chemical and physical properties, allowing for a wide range of creative and emergent solutions. Every expansion choice matters, as the complexity of the base naturally increases while new resources are discovered, or fail to be found, during exploration.

The environment itself constantly challenges long-term plans. Random events can severely test both the crew and the base, from meteor showers that rupture sealed areas and vent them into space, to solar eclipses that shut down power generation and threaten oxygen supplies. Even small mistakes, such as an explorer staying too long in a carbon dioxide-filled cave, can spiral into serious consequences.

Mental Health and Social Dynamics Matter

Survival in Adaptory goes beyond airtight structures and stable power grids. Crew morale plays a vital role in long-term success. Personality clashes, isolation, and mounting pressure can lead to declining moods, which in turn affect work efficiency, movement speed, and resilience. Ignoring the social fabric of the crew can trigger cascading failures, even in bases that are otherwise mechanically sound.

Learning Through Failure, Not Frustration

Despite its complexity, Adaptory avoids overwhelming players thanks to CHARLI, a surviving artificial intelligence that guides newcomers through contextual tutorials. These explanations introduce systems gradually without restricting creativity or exploration, allowing players to learn at their own pace. Mistakes are framed as learning opportunities, reinforcing the game’s focus on resilience rather than punishment.

Sustainability Over Survival Horror

Instead of relying on hostile alien threats, Adaptory challenges players with the harsh realities of sustaining life on a seemingly barren world. Recovery is always possible with the right planning, making the process of rebuilding and stabilizing a settlement more rewarding than restarting from scratch. Sustainability and long-term thinking are at the heart of the experience.

A Growing Early Access Journey

As an Early Access title, Adaptory is designed to evolve over time. Ongoing development plans include expanded research systems, material refining and smelting, advanced heating and cooling mechanics, and deeper layers of simulation. Player feedback is expected to play a central role as the game moves toward its full 1.0 release.

Adaptory is available now in Early Access on Steam, offering players the opportunity to shape a resilient colony while mastering one of the most detailed survival simulations in the genre.
