Exciting news for sandbox adventure fans! Publisher Chucklefish and developer Pugstorm, the team behind the award-winning Core Keeper, have unveiled their latest project: KYORA. The announcement came via a 1-minute teaser showcased at The Game Awards – (I may have screamed a little bit at the announcement). Described as a 2D sandbox adventure for 1-8 players, KYORA promises a world where every pixel can be shaped, mined, built, or destroyed, offering limitless possibilities for exploration and creativity.

What is KYORA?

KYORA invites players to cross into a magical realm of ruins, blending mystical wonder with creative freedom. Like its predecessor, Core Keeper, this new title focuses on exploration, crafting, and teamwork. But this time, it takes things to the next level with pixel-by-pixel terraforming, letting players shape the environment.

Here’s what you can expect:

Explore KYORA

Journey into the unexpected, in a procedurally-generated open world. Carve into the earth or sculpt toward the sky in search of magical materials. Craft matter-manipulating wands, upgrade your gear, and take on the powerful bosses in control of each biome: the Heralds.

Manipulate Every Pixel

Let your imagination run wild with KYORA’s pixel-by-pixel terraforming system. Build intricate bridges, customize your dream base with unique materials, or even reshape the environment during battle to create cover and platforms on the fly.

Team Up With Friends

It’s dangerous to go alone! Bring your buddies with you to combine skills, creating fun synergies between wand abilities, in up to 8-player online co-op gameplay.

Craft, Build & Upgrade

The world of KYORA is filled with secrets. The further you venture, the more dangers await. To survive KYORA’S forest-cloaked ruins and cross its blistering desert sands, you’ll need to use each biome’s resources to your advantage. Gather materials, forge powerful weapons and armour, plant seeds and cook up recipes to help you traverse the wilds.

Why I’m Excited for KYORA

As someone who had a complete run of Core Keeper earlier this year, I can’t wait to dive into KYORA. When Core Keeper hit its full release, I teamed up with my friend FoamzTV to conquer all the bosses while also building an interesting base camp that we’re still proud of today. Well, kinda. If you’re curious, you can check out the full playthrough on my YouTube channel here: Watch the Core Keeper Playlist.

With KYORA’s emphasis on creativity, adventure, and multiplayer fun, it feels like the perfect evolution of everything that made Core Keeper great. I’m especially excited to see how its terraforming mechanics push the boundaries of what a sandbox adventure can be.
